Poor People's Rights group gets second parade permit

The St. Paul Police Department has issued a second permit for a protest march during the Republican National Convention.
The Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign received a parade permit that will take demonstrators from Mears Park past the State Capitol to an area across the street from the Xcel Energy Center on Sept. 2.
It's a different route from the one proposed by the group, which filed a lawsuit last week in U.S. District Court alleging that police were taking too long to make a decision.
A spokesman for the Poor People's group said organizers will hold a news conference today to discuss the permit.
The nonprofit group is a nationwide association of individuals and organizations that says it seeks to ensure that everyone has access to health care, housing and living-wage jobs.
The march is scheduled from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 2. Protesters and traffic will move side by side, police spokesman Tom Walsh said.
An antiwar group planning a march on Labor Day, Sept. 1, also has sued the city, seeking a different route and time than the one police gave it.
The Republican National Convention will be held from Sept. 1-4 at the Xcel Center.
