MINNEAPOLIS -- A group of University of Minnesota students are fighting an administration's letter urging students to use good judgment if they engage in protests during the Republican National Convention.
The email from the Vice Provost for Student Affairs Jerry Rinehart, dated Tuesday, told students that their student status might be at risk if they violate the student code of conduct during involvement in protests.
Students for a Democratic Society said in a statement that the University is attempting to scare students and keep them from participating in protests.
The email encourages students to engage in the political process, but reminds them that illegal activity is not permitted.
The group is sending buses from each of the campuses to the protest site.
